Keynote: From Factories to Fleets: Industry 4.0 Lessons for the Software-Defined Vehicle - Ivan Dyachkov, CTO & Jaylin Yu, Solutions VP of Edge Computing, EMQ Technologies Inc.
Wednesday September 30, 2026 10:10 - 10:25 CEST
Manufacturing went through the transition automotive is in now, a decade earlier: protocol islands and point-to-point integrations that multiplied with every new consumer, while the data that mattered sat stranded at the edge. EMQ spent that decade building the MQTT backbone of Industry 4.0, and the last several years watching the same patterns reappear in vehicle programs. This keynote distills what transfers: why a unified semantic namespace beats bespoke pipelines, and what changes when the namespace starts moving; what constrained plant edges taught us about persistence and back-pressure, now being re-taught by IVI and gateway hardware; and how to live with the protocol reality vehicles have, where in-vehicle MQTT meets cloud gRPC, including the open-source bridge we built so fleets do not need two parallel stacks. We close with what we are contributing to the community, and where AGL could take it next.

From Local Connections To Global Impact: Lessons From the Growth of the AGL Japan Community - Hiroyuki Ishii, Panasonic Automotive Systems Co., Ltd.
Wednesday September 30, 2026 14:25 - 14:55 CEST
As software-defined vehicles expand the scope of automotive software, open source collaboration is rapidly extending beyond its traditional boundaries. This creates new opportunities, but also makes it harder for any single project or company to address the full set of challenges alone.

This session looks at the recent movement emerging around the AGL Japan community. Rather than treating AGL as a standalone project, the community is creating bottom-up synergy among engineers, companies, universities, and adjacent open source initiatives. By connecting people and knowledge across organizational and technical boundaries, it is becoming an important force for tackling larger SDV challenges that cannot be solved in isolation.

The talk examines why this movement is happening, how trusted relationships and local communities are turning into broader collaboration, and how such interaction can amplify technical incubation. It also explores what this experience may suggest for building a more harmonized global automotive open source ecosystem.

From Automotive SoC To Commodity Board: A Transferable Model for AGL SoDeV Xen Porting - Yuichi Kusakabe, Honda Motor
Wednesday September 30, 2026 15:00 - 15:30 CEST
AGL SoDeV's reference Xen multi-domain architecture has so far been validated on the Renesas R-Car V4H Sparrow Hawk board. This session walks through our port of the same dom0less, multi-domain (DomA/DomD/DomU) architecture to the Raspberry Pi 5, a commodity board.
We'll cover: (1) the virtio-gpu/virgl fixes needed to get a working display pipeline without the V4H's dedicated GPU assumptions, (2) a root-cause playbook for DomA boot failures we hit along the way (autostart defaults, boot-variable regressions, partition-label mismatches), and (3) what generalizes — and what doesn't — when moving AGL SoDeV's Xen architecture from automotive-grade silicon to commodity hardware.

Driving Innovation Safely: OIN 2.0 and Patent Risk in Europe’s Automotive Ecosystem - Shane Coughlan, Open Invention Network
Wednesday September 30, 2026 16:35 - 17:05 CEST
As Europe’s automotive industry pivots toward Software-Defined Vehicles (SDVs), open-source software (OSS) has become the core driver for innovation, powering Automotive Grade Linux (AGL), ADAS, and connected mobility. However, as automakers and Tier-1 suppliers transform into software developers, they face an increasingly complex patent landscape and rising exposure to Non-Practicing Entities (NPEs).

This session examines the practical utility of OIN 2.0, the newly updated framework for open-source patent non-aggression. We will explore how its expanded "Linux System" coverage shields the modern automotive, cloud, and IoT stacks. Focusing on utility, the talk addresses how European and global enterprises can leverage this community-driven, shared-responsibility model to clear patent risk royalty-free. Attendees will learn how to reduce legal overhead, secure multi-tier supply chains, and maintain freedom of action, ensuring that collaborative engineering remains safe and competitive in the next era of European mobility.

The Evolution of the ELISA Example System in the Context of AGL SoDeV - Philipp Ahmann, ETAS GbmH
Wednesday September 30, 2026 16:35 - 17:05 CEST
The ELISA example system was introduced in 2023 as a reference for the ELISA working groups and community members. It integrates Xen, Zephyr, and Linux, with the Linux flavor intentionally left flexible. It is a playground to experience ELISA deliverables, and to enable developers to understand the system components.

With the launch of AGL SoDeV, a similar system architecture has now been established under the AGL umbrella. This new iteration is characterized by a regular build process, clear use case, and a well-defined scope, all of which are actively maintained by the AGL community.

To prevent redundant efforts and ensure alignment between the ELISA and AGL ecosystems, this talk will outline the current setup of the ELISA example system, highlight areas for improvement, and explore viable options for its proper maintenance.

By tracing the origin of the ELISA example system, its evolution to date, and its integration with the AGL community, the talk aims for broader discussion. The goal is to identify e.g. effective ways to collaborate with and learn from AGL, to determine where to best maintain which SW layer, and how to establish a process for regular build execution.

Envisioning the Next AGL CI/CD: A Template From Gerrit+Jenkins To GitLab - Jan-Simon Möller, The Linux Foundation (AGL)
Thursday October 1, 2026 09:45 - 10:15 CEST
Every open-source project eventually outgrows the infrastructure that got it there. For AGL, that's Gerrit+Jenkins — still functional, but carrying real friction: aging plugins, a steep on-ramp for new contributors. This talk envisions AGL's next CI/CD setup, framed as a reusable template other projects can adapt rather than a one-off fix.
We'll walk through the evaluation behind that vision: modernized Gerrit+Jenkins, GitHub, self-hosted GitLab CE, and GitLab.com with self-hosted runners, Forgejo. We discuss maintenance burden, reliability, security, and native integration with Yocto/BitBake.
The envisioned target: GitLab.com with self-hosted runners, pairing a modern hosted review/CI experience with build execution kept on AGL-controlled infrastructure.

We'll cover what getting there requires with sequencing a cutover with no dead period. It provides in the end a decision framework any project facing this can reuse.

From BSP Integration To Upstream Integration: Rethinking AGL's Role in Automotive Open Source - Harunobu Kurokawa, Renesas Electronics Corporation
Thursday October 1, 2026 13:55 - 14:25 CEST
As automotive software moves toward SDV, decoupling hardware and software and using independently evolving upstream open source projects become increasingly important. While traditional BSP-centered integration remains essential for product development and long-term maintenance, it is not sufficient for continuously combining and validating upstream projects such as Linux, Xen, Zephyr, and Yocto. Drawing on our OSS integration work on R-Car SparrowHawk, this talk introduces “Upstream Integration” as a complementary model to BSP integration and explains how AGL can serve as a shared integration platform for validating upstream technologies, building reusable reference implementations, and contributing improvements back to their communities. SparrowHawk is primarily an automotive reference, with reuse potential in IoT and industrial domains.

Preparing Xen for Functional Safety: Lessons From a Mature Open Source Project - Cody Zuschlag, Xen Project - Linux Foundation
Thursday October 1, 2026 14:30 - 15:00 CEST
Projects like ELISA and Zephyr have helped move functional safety to the forefront of the open source ecosystem. As a mature project with more than two decades of history, the Xen Project faces a different challenge: how do you evolve an existing codebase, development process, and contributor community to support safety-critical use cases?

This session shares lessons from the Xen Project’s ongoing safety journey, from improving development processes and documentation to producing reusable safety artifacts and collaborating across organizations. Along the way, we’ll discuss the practical challenges, engineering tradeoffs, and community decisions that come with evolving an established open source project.

Whether your project is just beginning its safety journey or is already supporting safety-critical systems, you’ll leave with practical ideas that can help any mature open source community prepare for what’s next.

Safe Telltale Rendering Using Linux - Isaac Trefz, Elektrobit Automotive GmbH
Thursday October 1, 2026 15:05 - 15:35 CEST
Until now, strategies for rendering functionally safe telltales in digital instrument clusters have typically relied on a Real-Time Operating System (RTOS) to validate correct display after the fact. This approach constrains telltale functionality because of the inherent simplicity and limited capabilities of RTOS-based implementations. As a result, telltales in today’s high-tech, widescreen digital instrument clusters often do little more than replicate functionality first introduced in vehicles nearly 100 years ago. This talk presents a safe-rendering approach—rather than a validation-only model—that uses a high-level operating system, Linux, to bring safe telltale functionality into the 21st century.

A New Modern IVI Experience: How Flutter, Figma & AI Powers the Vehicles of the Future - Jorge Coca, Very Good Ventures
Thursday October 1, 2026 16:05 - 16:35 CEST
The cockpit keeps growing. Cluster, center stack, passenger display, head-up display, and rear seat screens all have to feel like one product, and they have to change faster than a three-year program cycle allows. Most teams answer this with a different toolchain per screen and a design system that drifts the moment it leaves Figma.

This session shows a different answer, unified under AGL. We designed a new modern IVI experience in Figma, exported its tokens as the contract between design and code, built it once in Flutter, and ran it across multiple displays and form factors from a single codebase. Then we pushed on what comes next: generative UI that assembles a surface around what the driver is actually trying to do, personalization that reshapes the cockpit per profile, and 3D content living in the same render tree as standard widgets.

We will walk through the architecture, the testing infrastructure, and the iterative development process that closes the gap between Figma, Flutter, and agentic engineering, while also highlighting where the AGL Flutter toolchain still has gaps worth filling as a community.
