As software-defined vehicles expand the scope of automotive software, open source collaboration is rapidly extending beyond its traditional boundaries. This creates new opportunities, but also makes it harder for any single project or company to address the full set of challenges alone.

This session looks at the recent movement emerging around the AGL Japan community. Rather than treating AGL as a standalone project, the community is creating bottom-up synergy among engineers, companies, universities, and adjacent open source initiatives. By connecting people and knowledge across organizational and technical boundaries, it is becoming an important force for tackling larger SDV challenges that cannot be solved in isolation.

The talk examines why this movement is happening, how trusted relationships and local communities are turning into broader collaboration, and how such interaction can amplify technical incubation. It also explores what this experience may suggest for building a more harmonized global automotive open source ecosystem.

AGL SoDeV's reference Xen multi-domain architecture has so far been validated on the Renesas R-Car V4H Sparrow Hawk board. This session walks through our port of the same dom0less, multi-domain (DomA/DomD/DomU) architecture to the Raspberry Pi 5, a commodity board.
We'll cover: (1) the virtio-gpu/virgl fixes needed to get a working display pipeline without the V4H's dedicated GPU assumptions, (2) a root-cause playbook for DomA boot failures we hit along the way (autostart defaults, boot-variable regressions, partition-label mismatches), and (3) what generalizes — and what doesn't — when moving AGL SoDeV's Xen architecture from automotive-grade silicon to commodity hardware.

The ELISA example system was introduced in 2023 as a reference for the ELISA working groups and community members. It integrates Xen, Zephyr, and Linux, with the Linux flavor intentionally left flexible. It is a playground to experience ELISA deliverables, and to enable developers to understand the system components.

With the launch of AGL SoDeV, a similar system architecture has now been established under the AGL umbrella. This new iteration is characterized by a regular build process, clear use case, and a well-defined scope, all of which are actively maintained by the AGL community.

To prevent redundant efforts and ensure alignment between the ELISA and AGL ecosystems, this talk will outline the current setup of the ELISA example system, highlight areas for improvement, and explore viable options for its proper maintenance.

By tracing the origin of the ELISA example system, its evolution to date, and its integration with the AGL community, the talk aims for broader discussion. The goal is to identify e.g. effective ways to collaborate with and learn from AGL, to determine where to best maintain which SW layer, and how to establish a process for regular build execution.

Every open-source project eventually outgrows the infrastructure that got it there. For AGL, that's Gerrit+Jenkins — still functional, but carrying real friction: aging plugins, a steep on-ramp for new contributors. This talk envisions AGL's next CI/CD setup, framed as a reusable template other projects can adapt rather than a one-off fix.
We'll walk through the evaluation behind that vision: modernized Gerrit+Jenkins, GitHub, self-hosted GitLab CE, and GitLab.com with self-hosted runners, Forgejo. We discuss maintenance burden, reliability, security, and native integration with Yocto/BitBake.
The envisioned target: GitLab.com with self-hosted runners, pairing a modern hosted review/CI experience with build execution kept on AGL-controlled infrastructure.

We'll cover what getting there requires with sequencing a cutover with no dead period. It provides in the end a decision framework any project facing this can reuse.

The AGL container integration was upstreamed in 2023. It incubated many key technologies for Linux-based systems. On the other hand, the past presentation focuses on the technology element.

As automotive software moves toward SDV, decoupling hardware and software and using independently evolving upstream open source projects become increasingly important. While traditional BSP-centered integration remains essential for product development and long-term maintenance, it is not sufficient for continuously combining and validating upstream projects such as Linux, Xen, Zephyr, and Yocto. Drawing on our OSS integration work on R-Car SparrowHawk, this talk introduces “Upstream Integration” as a complementary model to BSP integration and explains how AGL can serve as a shared integration platform for validating upstream technologies, building reusable reference implementations, and contributing improvements back to their communities. SparrowHawk is primarily an automotive reference, with reuse potential in IoT and industrial domains.

Until now, strategies for rendering functionally safe telltales in digital instrument clusters have typically relied on a Real-Time Operating System (RTOS) to validate correct display after the fact. This approach constrains telltale functionality because of the inherent simplicity and limited capabilities of RTOS-based implementations. As a result, telltales in today’s high-tech, widescreen digital instrument clusters often do little more than replicate functionality first introduced in vehicles nearly 100 years ago. This talk presents a safe-rendering approach—rather than a validation-only model—that uses a high-level operating system, Linux, to bring safe telltale functionality into the 21st century.

Dense point-cloud maps are heavy to store, share, and maintain. My research localizes a vehicle against compact 3D building models instead, using panoramic images and semantic cues to match what the camera sees to a lightweight city model.

In this session I explain the approach without heavy math. I cover how I build the lightweight 3D model, how semantic segmentation links image to map, and how the vehicle tracks its pose against simple building geometry. I show where this beats dense maps on size and upkeep, and where it still struggles.

You leave understanding a lighter path to localization, and the trade-offs against point-cloud methods you may already use. I presented the underlying research as a poster at ICRA 2026 in Vienna, titled Semantic Equirectangular Visual Tracking in Lightweight 3D Building Reconstructions, and this talk adapts it for an automotive open-source audience. All results are my own.
